GungHo working on another Puzzle & Dragons game for 3DS!

Puzzle & Dragons Z is a Nintendo 3DS title based on the famous Puzzle & Dragons game, on smartphones. It adds an overworld, story, and various other bonus content, making it a full-fledged RPG with the gameplay of Puzzle & Dragons. It was pretty successful in Japan, with over 1.5 million copies shipped.

It was followed by Puzzle & Dragons Super Mario Bros. Edition in April, this year. It’s basically a Mario-themed version of Puzzle & Dragons, but without any of the extra (overworld, story) from Puzzle & Dragons Z. Both versions came out in May in Europe and North America, as part of a single package.

In Japan, Puzzle & Dragons Super Mario Bros. Edition didn’t sell nearly as much as Puzzle & Dragons Z, but it looks like GungHo isn’t ready to give up on the Nintendo 3DS just yet. This month, CoroCoro magazine will reveal a mysterious new Puzzle & Dragon game for Nintendo’s handheld, which is mentioned on the cover.

Unfortunately, we have absolutely no details at the moment: all we know is that the game will be on Nintendo 3DS. We don’t know if it will be a “sequel” to Puzzle & Dragons Z, a game based on another Nintendo licence, or something else entirely.

Japanese Sensation YO-KAI WATCH Hits North American Shores on Nintendo 3DS!

VANCOUVER, B.C., November 5, 2015 – Do your socks go missing in the dryer? Are you constantly shopping for useless stuff? Or maybe you can’t stop spilling all of your secrets?  All of this could be caused by Yo-kai! Hundreds of these sometimes spooky, sometimes cute and usually mischievous Yo-kai secretly inhabit our world. They can’t be seen by the human eye, but they’re hiding everywhere! In YO-KAI WATCH, an original game from top Japanese entertainment company LEVEL-5 Inc. launching exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems on November 6, you must explore the in-game world to find and befriend more than 200 of these Yo-kai, each with unique skills, strengths and personalities.

“After selling millions and becoming a cultural phenomenon in Japan, YO-KAI WATCH plans to make a big splash in Canada as part of a broad entertainment blitz of a video game, toys, a comic book and an animated comedy series,” said Pierre-Paul Trepanier, Nintendo of Canada’s General Manager and Senior Director. “People will find it easy to love this charming game and its memorable characters.”

After selecting to play as a male or female character, you begin an adventure in an expansive world filled with hidden Yo-kai waiting to be discovered. As you explore the world, you will encounter Whisper, the self-proclaimed “Yo-kai Butler,” who entrusts you with a Yo-kai Watch. With this special watch, you’ll be able to see Yo-kai everywhere in town and even befriend them. Befriending new Yo-kai is not always easy, though – in many cases, you will need to battle with them and impress them during your battle. Once befriended, you’ll receive a Yo-kai medal as proof of your new friendship. Then you can summon your new friends with their Yo-kai Medals, form a team, and challenge troublemaking Yo-kai or solve the problems of people in need. Finding all the Yo-kai in the game (especially the rare ones) and seeing their inspired names and charming designs is all part of the fun. As you progress through the story and solve various mysteries around town, you’ll be able to befriend more than 200 Yo-kai in the game. You can summon up to six Yo-kai friends at a time to join your team at any time.

As you collect Yo-kai throughout the game, you can form teams of six Yo-kai at a time. Since each Yo-kai has different abilities, it will take strategy to form the right team and gain the upper hand when confronting particularly troublesome Yo-kai. By strategically initiating Soultimate Moves and purifying your friendly Yo-kai using the touch screen of the Nintendo 3DS system, you can gain the advantage in battle. You can even feed your Yo-kai food, beverages and medicine in battle to heal them. Your assistance and leadership in battle is crucial to success.

Form a Legendary Team of Heroes in The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes!

VANCOUVER, B.C., October 22, 2015 – It’s dangerous to go alone … so don’t! In The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes, available for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems on October 23, three heroes must form a legendary trio to tackle dungeons and defeat bosses together as a team. Presented in the same top-down style as the critically acclaimed The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, players solve inventive puzzles and dress Link in a range of outfits to enable new abilities that enhance their adventure. While playing the game with three players is part of the fun, the adventure can also be taken on solo, allowing all players to dive into the experience at any place and any time.

“We are constantly transforming our most iconic franchises to give players unique gaming experiences,” said Pierre-Paul Trepanier, Nintendo of Canada’s General Manager and Senior Director. “The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes is one of many games launching this year that presents beloved characters in unexpected new game-play settings.”

Players can journey through the numerous levels of The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes in multiple ways. In addition to playing the game’s 32 stages across eight areas solo with two statue-like figures called “Doppels,” they can also play via local wireless or use a wireless broadband Internet connection to go online in multiplayer mode with two other heroic players who also own the game. Players can choose to team up with any combination of players who are or are not part of their Nintendo 3DS friends list. With Download Play, players can connect locally with two other friends who own a system in the Nintendo 3DS family, even if only one person has the game. Only by working as a team will players be able to progress through the various hazards awaiting them on their perilous journey. And by using fun emoticons on the touch screen, players not playing together in the same room can quickly and easily communicate with each other. The multiplayer Coliseum mode also lets players battle one or two other heroes, wearing the outfits that they have collected during their adventure.

The adventure will take players through fiery volcanoes, icy caverns and beyond, with each new dungeon cleverly designed to be completed by three heroes. Co-operation is key. For the first time in The Legend of Zelda series, players can stack two or three Link characters on top of each other using a new Totem mechanic to solve multi-level puzzles and reach enemies’ weak spots. This new mechanic is one of many ways the three heroes can interact together to conquer the challenges that face them head(s) on. All three Link characters share the same heart gauge, so it pays to help each other. How players work together to clear each dungeon and reap the rewards is part of the experience!

Collecting and changing outfits in the game is not just for showing off Link’s fashion prowess – each of the outfits in the game comes with its own special abilities that help the three Link characters solve puzzles and navigate difficult terrain. For example, the “Goron Garb” allows Link to swim in lava, while the “Kokiri Clothes” let him shoot three arrows instead of one. By switching between different outfits before entering a dungeon, all three players can bring vital abilities to each new area. Players can create different outfits using materials that they collect by completing the game’s levels.

The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes launches in stores and in the Nintendo eShop in Nintendo 3DS on October 23 at a suggested retail price of $49.99. In addition, a Hyrule Edition New Nintendo 3DS XL system will launch exclusively in EB Games stores on October 30 at a suggested retail price of $259.99. The system (which does not include the game) is gold-coloured and features an intricate Hylian Crest on the front.

Nintendo 3DS features parental controls that let adults manage the content their children can access. For more information about this and other features, visit http://www.nintendo.com/en_CA/3ds.

Renegade Kid announces price for Dementium Remastered on 3DS; talks about some of the improvements!

Yes, I am extremely excited about Dementium Remastered. Feels great to have it wrapped up. Price wise, the game will be $14.99 and will release in North America as soon as it can!
I think players are going to really enjoy the game, and those who are familiar with the original DS release will hopefully appreciate the improvements we have made. We approached the remastering process in a way that retained the essence of what made the original game so special, but we did not view it through rose-tinted glasses. We did not let tradition, legacy or ego hold us back from making significant improvements that we feel bring the game up to par with modern gaming experiences.
Two of the most impactful changes that affect the gameplay experience are no respawning enemies and manual save spots. In hindsight, this was unintentional difficulty in the original release, and presented unfair difficulty – not something I am a fan of. As such, this makes the new experience a more digestible and balanced experience – but it also makes it easier. This is great news for most players, but the hardcore players out there who want something they can sink their teeth into will be happy to hear that we also added two difficulty settings above “Normal”, in the form of “Hard” and “Demented”.
The art has been completely overhauled. Renegade Kid’s art director, Gregg Hargrove, and our Technical Director, Bob Ives, have implemented a wealth of new tricks to our toolbox, which enable us to utilize such delights as normal maps and detail maps that were not possible on the original Nintendo DS. Much of the geometry in the blood-stained corridors and gnarled enemies has also been redone, with higher polygon counts to present more definition and character to the visual presentation. It is disgustingly beautiful.
Another area of gameplay that we have focused on is how the weapons handle in terms of ammo and reloading. The system in the original game was kinda of strange. We have modernized this aspect for Dementium Remastered. This is something that will feel natural to new players, and improved for fans of the original.
Dementium Remastered runs at 60 frames per second on the regular 3DS with 3D on. It also supports the Circle Pad Pro and second analog nub on the New 3DS. Much like Moon Chronicles, the game offers a wealth of control options, including different button configurations and aim sensitivity adjustments.
