Take Back the Planet in Kirby’s First Sci-fi Action Adventure!
VANCOUVER, B.C., June 7, 2016 – When Planet Popstar needs defending from an army of evil robots, who’s the best puffball for the job? A marshmallow? A loofah? No, no, no. The answer is, of course, KIRBY! In the Kirby: Planet Robobot game, launching on June 10 exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems, Kirby is back in one of his most technologically advanced 2D adventures yet. Jump into Kirby’s powerful new Robobot Armor to lift heavy objects with ease, scan enemies, gain abilities and transform into new Modes to complete a wide variety of creative stages. The game is full of features new to the series like Kirby’s powerful mech armor, new Copy Abilities, amiibo functionality and a cooperative multiplayer brawler in Team Kirby Clash. There’s so much to process, hopefully Kirby won’t malfunction from such an overload of fun!
“Kirby: Planet Robobot is a sci-fi twist on one of Nintendo’s most beloved characters,” said Pierre-Paul Trepanier, Nintendo of Canada’s General Manager and Senior Director. “Players can jump right into the action and control Kirby in the mighty Robobot Armor in this new adventure exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems.”
For the first time in the Kirby franchise, Kirby dons the mighty Robobot Armor to shape-shift into powerful Modes. These Modes include a flying jet or fast-moving car, all dependent on what kind of enemy Kirby scans. This new twist on the classic Copy Ability will have players anticipating each new Mode and using different techniques to reach the end of each stage.
Like previous Kirby games, Kirby can also inhale enemies to trigger more traditional Copy Abilities. More than 20 different abilities are available in the game, some classic and some new to the series. New abilities include the Doctor, which allows Kirby to throw pills and mix special concoctions; ESP, a psychic power; and Poison, which sprays toxic mist to defeat enemies.
Launching on the same day as the game, four new amiibo figures will be available in stores at a suggested retail price of $15.99 each. These include fun new models for Kirby, King Dedede and Meta Knight, as well as the lovable Waddle Dee, who makes his amiibo debut. While playing, tapping these new amiibo figures gives Kirby new looks and/or abilities. In fact, players can tap any amiibo figure to trigger something in the game. When using the Kirby, King Dedede or Meta Knight amiibo from the Super Smash Bros. series, Kirby will receive the Smash Bros., Hammer and Sword abilities, respectively, as well as a special body color. When tapping any non-Kirby character amiibo like Mario, Kirby will receive a random Copy Ability that is already in the game. Some of these abilities even relate to the amiibo itself, such as earning the Sword ability when tapping Link or the Poison ability when tapping Ganondorf.
Outside of the awesome single-player story mode, Kirby: Planet Robot contains many other modes that add great variety to the action. In Team Kirby Clash, team up with three other players to defeat tough bosses. By selecting one of four roles, each with a unique ability, players try to quickly defeat bosses to earn the highest amount of experience points. These points are then used to strengthen the heroes and obtain new abilities. Team Kirby Clash can be played using a local wireless connection (multiple systems and games are required for this mode) or through Download Play (multiple systems are required for this mode). Two additional modes are unlocked after completing the game, but … players will just have to unlock them to see what they have in store. We don’t want to spoil everything!
Kirby: Planet Robobot launches on June 10, and can be purchased in stores, in Nintendo eShop on Nintendo 3DS and at Nintendo.ca at a suggested retail price of $49.99. For more information about the game, visit http://kirby.nintendo.com/
Remember that Nintendo 3DS features parental controls that let adults manage the content their children can access. For more information about this and other features, visit http://www.nintendo.com/en_CA/
Yooka-Laylee gets new trailer; game delayed until Q1 2017!
After months of toil and tease, we’re as chuffed as chips to finally release the Yooka-Laylee E3 2016 trailer into the wild!
As well as revealing the first gameplay in over a year, this video also confirms that, after long consideration and knowing through dialogue with our fans that they value quality and polish above all, we’ve made the difficult decision to lock the release of Yooka-Laylee to Q1 2017.
While we felt confident we could ship the game in October as originally projected in our Kickstarter, the Playtonic team has decided that it would prefer to add a few extra months’ polish to the game schedule.
