SEGA AGES Takes to the Streets in Out Run for Nintendo Switch!
IRVINE, Calif. – Jan. 10, 2019 – Out Run is out now the Nintendo Switch™ for $7.99. Featuring new motion controls and a new ranking system, speed through the streets of SEGA AGES Out Run, the award-winning title that paved the road for the racing genre. Your favorite stages and soundtracks are back; do you have what it takes to beat the clock?
SEGA Games History: Out Run Facts and Trivia
- Out Run was first conceived as a racing game called DEAD HEAT, where you drove a Formula One race car, before it became a driving simulator with a commercial car to help set it apart.
- Out Run was also modeled after the American cross-country road race seen in the film The Cannonball Run before planners Yoji Ishii and Yu Suzuki switched gears to Europe due to the wider variety of landscapes.
- This SEGA AGES release contains tracks added for the 3DS version of Out Run along with all-new arranged versions of songs from the Genesis and Master System releases, such as MIDNIGHT HIGHWAY -PLAYBACK-, and even includes a chiptune version of RADIATION from Out Run 2006: Coast 2 Coast.
- If you enter a high score as the name “YU.” with the period and hold down the X button at the end of Stage 2, you will see a credit for legendary designer Yu Suzuki appear on screen!
About Out Run
First released globally for arcades back in 1986 to critical and commercial success, Out Run is the seminal racing experience created by the legendary designer Yu Suzuki and the Sega AM2 team. Take in a variety of picturesque landscapes from a lowered third-person perspective as you race against time to reach your destination while avoiding traffic and other treacherous obstacles.
Out Run is now available on the Nintendo Switch eShop in the Americas and Europe for $7.99 with commensurate European pricing.

Host Your Own Olympic Games with Mario & Sonic on Wii U!
VANCOUVER, B.C., June 24, 2016 – Calling all active families! While Mario, Sonic and all their friends compete in Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games (launching today for the Wii U console), you and your family members can join in on all the fun … and enter for a chance to win a great prize package in the process. Starting today, Nintendo kicks off a contest on Instagram asking fans to take photos of their friends and families playing the game together or re-creating some of the game’s most memorable events, including Football (Soccer), Rugby Sevens and Beach Volleyball. Now’s your chance to get your family and friends together to host your very own Olympic Games at home! This could entail taking a photo of the family as they have a friendly competition while playing Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games in the living room at home (victory poses while wearing makeshift medals are optional!) or organizing an impromptu soccer match in the backyard with all your friends. The more creative and active the photos, the better. The most important thing, however, is to just have fun playing together!
With so many multiplayer modes and events in the game*, finding inspiration for the Instagram photo contest should be easy. The contest runs today until July 22. To participate, simply snap a photo of your family and/or friends competing in your own home Mario & Sonic-themed competition and post to Instagram using the hashtags #MarioSonicRio2016 and #NintendoContest.
Every week starting on July 1, Nintendo will select one winning photo, with the winning entrant receiving a Wii U system, two New Nintendo 3DS XL systems, one each of the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS versions of the Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games game and both the Mario and Sonic amiibo figures. That’s quite a prize package!
“Mario & Sonic aren’t the only ones breaking a sweat this summer with Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games,” said Pierre-Paul Trepanier, Nintendo of Canada’s General Manager and Senior Director. “This contest encourages families to get out and be just as active as the Mario & Sonic characters in the game.”
Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games for the Wii U console is full of engaging multiplayer modes that get your family and friends playing together using the largest cast of characters in series history. In Tournament mode, up to two players participate in Preliminary Heat, Semifinal and Final matches in a wide variety of different events. Winning a tournament will earn you “Mii Wear” outfits for your Mii character, coins, rings and medals. If your family and friends are ready for a challenge, the Heroes Showdown mode is ready and waiting to be conquered. In this mode, you can form a team to compete head-to-head with another player in random events. One team is assigned 10 random characters from Team Mario, while the other receives Team Sonic superstars. If you lose an event, characters are eliminated from your team until only one team, or one team captain, is left standing. With many different multiplayer options to choose from, friends and family will have a blast honing their skills in a wide variety of events in order to earn a spot on the winner’s podium.
And speaking of events, Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games is overflowing with diverse events for up to four players that will keep all members of the family entertained. For the first time in the franchise (and the first time in real life!), Rugby Sevens makes its Olympic Games debut. By fielding a seven-character team, you’re tasked with scoring goals while also navigating a chaotic field of fellow players. Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games features 14 Olympic Games events and three Duel events, which infuse some Mario & Sonic elements like Chaos Emeralds and Fire Flowers into the proceedings. In addition to Rugby Sevens, other main events include Football (Soccer), Beach Volleyball, BMX and Rhythmic Gymnastics (Clubs), which is also making its series debut.
Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games for Wii U is now available, and can be purchased in stores, in Nintendo eShop or at Nintendo.ca at a suggested retail price of $74.99. The Nintendo 3DS version of the game, which contains exclusive events and game modes, is also available at a suggested retail price of $49.99. Nintendo Brings New Amiibo Figures and Functionality to Games in Early 2016!
VANCOUVER, B.C., January 21, 2016 – The Nintendo games launching in the first part of the year are going to include some fun amiibo functionality. Games like The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD for the Wii U console and Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games™ for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems, both launching in March, use a wide variety of different compatible amiibo figures. Some new amiibo figures will also launch in March, including the legendary Wolf Link amiibo that is included in every physical version of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD, as well as three new figures in the Animal Crossing amiibo series, featuring fan-favourite characters like Timmy & Tommy, Kapp’n and Rover. The previously announced Ryu, Roy and R.O.B. (Famicom Colors) amiibo figures will also launch in March.
“New amiibo figures and functionality will keep surprising fans in 2016,” said Pierre-Paul Trepanier, Nintendo of Canada’s General Manager and Senior Director. “All the upcoming amiibo prove that the must-have figures are continuing to evolve in unexpected and fun ways.”
When the physical version of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD launches on March 4 at a suggested retail price of $79.99, it will include a beautiful Wolf Link amiibo figure based on the same character from the classic game. Purchasing The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD and Wolf Link amiibo bundle will currently be the only way to get this amiibo figure. When tapped to the Wii U GamePad controller, this legendary lupine opens the Cave of Shadows, a challenging new bonus dungeon in the game. After completing the Cave of Shadows, players can save their remaining hearts to the Wolf Link amiibo, and then use those hearts inside the Cave of Shadows to replenish life energy.
After conquering the cave, players can save a record of their remaining hearts to the Wolf Link amiibo and attempt to beat their score at any time. Some of the data stored on the Wolf Link amiibo figure can also be used with The Legend of Zelda game for Wii U, which launches this year. More details about this functionality will be revealed in the future.
In addition to the Wolf Link amiibo, other amiibo figures in the Super Smash Bros. series like Link, Toon Link, Zelda, Sheik and Ganondorf will work with The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD. By tapping the Link or Toon Link amiibo, players can replenish their arrows. Tapping Zelda or Sheik will refill the player’s hearts, while, in a devious twist, tapping the Ganondorf figure will actually make Link take double the damage!
On March 18, new amiibo figures in the Animal Crossing series will launch in stores, including characters like Timmy & Tommy, Kapp’n and Rover. Digby will also be made available as a stand-alone amiibo. The next series of Animal Crossing amiibo cards also launches in March, bringing the grand total of available amiibo cards to be used in games like Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival for Wii U and Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer for Nintendo 3DS to a whopping 300. Let the collecting begin!
Fans who are ready to compete in Rio de Janeiro with Mario, Sonic and the gang in Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games will also have to warm up their amiibo-tapping fingers. When the action-filled game launches for Nintendo 3DS on March 18 at a suggested retail price of $49.99, both Mario and Sonic amiibo figures will be compatible*. By tapping the Mario or Sonic amiibo figures to the New Nintendo 3DS system (or on a Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo 3DS XL or Nintendo 2DS system using the NFC Reader/Writer accessory), players can boost Mario and Sonic’s outfits with that character’s power for the day.
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Pokémon, some of the Pokémon amiibo will be made available again at select retailers. Fans should be on the lookout for Charizard, Greninja and Lucario to once again return to shelves right next to Pikachu.
Finally, Star Fox Zero delivers a new beginning for the classic shooter series. With a unique control scheme that uses both the TV screen and the screen on the GamePad, players pilot multiple vehicles through intergalactic levels with Fox and his classic crew. The game launches exclusively for Wii U on April 22 and will feature amiibo compatibility. More details will be revealed at a later time.
