New multiplayer trailer for The Escapists 2 shows off prison in space!

28th July 2017 – Award-winning international games label Team17 and developer Mouldy Toof have today released a brand new multiplayer trailer for The Escapists 2, the follow up to their award-winning prison-escape game The Escapists which recently celebrated reaching over four million downloads.

The new trailer showcases U.S.S Anomaly, the new home for interstellar inmates. Designed to solve the problem of Earth’s overcrowded prisons, the U.S.S Anomaly is the ultimate test of your escaping prowess. The floating fortress is complete with robotic guards (and dogs!), jet packs, shuttles and an A.I Warden. In space, no one can hear you escape!

The Escapists 2 is the forthcoming sequel to the multi-million selling, award-winning sandbox prison-escape game which will include, in a first for the series, drop in/drop out play for up to four players in both local and online play.

Escaping won’t be easy though. You’ll have to work around the strict prison schedule and avoid the unwanted attention of guards. Craft weapons and tools found (or stolen) from within the prison, but beware of cell shakedowns. Get a job or perform “favours” for your fellow inmates to purchase vital supplies, all while scouting escape routes.

The Escapists 2 features:
● A dedicated tutorial for new players to learn the basics of prison life
● 10 unique themed prisons to escape from including the frosty Fort Tundra, a train hurtling through the desert, and even a trip to the final frontier!
● Play each prison solo or multiplayer with both local and online co-op and versus modes for up to four players*
● Drop-in, drop-out online multiplayer experience.  Carefully plan and execute an intricate escape from your initial incarceration with your fellow inmates either online or locally, or simply hop into an existing game already in progress to help pull off the final touches of the escape!
● A brand-new combat system to make every prison brawl even more bruising
● Create your con with over 300 customisations to create your perfect prisoner
● New ways to escape
● New items to craft – Build yourself a homemade Taser to knock out guards plus many more!

The Escapists 2 will launch on August 22nd for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, with a Nintendo Switch™ version to follow. Players can pre-order the game now via Steam and the PlayStation Store with a physical version for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One available from select retailers.

[*] Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC players will be able to play online multiplayer and local split screen for up to four players while Nintendo Switch™ players will be able to play online up to four players and split screen for two players.

Ripstone to march Ironcast onto Nintendo Switch August 10th; will be priced at $12.99!

Two Tribes adding Co-Pilot mode to RIVE on Nintendo Switch!

RIVE for Nintendo Switch is almost done, with a new way to play together: Copilot Mode.

Hey Two Tribes! How’s RIVE for Switch coming along? You announced it back at GDC in February, and then you went silent. What’s up?!
It’s doing fine, thanks. We’re still busy, together with our development partner Engine Software, ironing out all the little kinks that come with supporting new hardware, but RIVE is already looking swell. And, yes, it runs at a silky smooth 60 frames per second.

Fantastic! I can’t wait to play your hard, fast and hilarious platformer/shooter hybrid on Nintendo’s handheld/console hybrid. Also, am I remembering it right? Did you say something new would be added to the game?
Your memory serves you well. We wanted to leverage the Switch’s built-in local multiplayer capability, and because separate Joy-Cons don’t have enough buttons for the full dual-stick RIVE experience, we came up with something we call Copilot Mode.

Copilot Mode? What’s that all about, Two Tribes?!
You control Roughshot in his Spider Tank… together. One player moves, the other attacks. And if you die, the roles are reversed. It’s a ton of fun, and you can play any and all parts of the game this way: the 6-hour campaign, highscore and speedrun missions, the super-hardcore single-credit mode, infinite battle arenas, daily challenges…

Ooh! Even though I’m an imaginary, nonexistent fan magically asking you exactly the right questions, I’m eager to try Copilot Mode. So when can I download the game that Steam users are rating 95% positive on my shiny Nintendo machine?
We’re not ready to announce a date just yet, but rest assured we’re getting close. Stay tuned for the full release announcement!

You Can Now Reel in Splatoon 2 For Nintendo Switch!

VANCOUVER, B.C., July 21, 2017 – Greetings! We here at the Squid Research Lab have some fantastic news. According to the position of the sun and the level of the tides (and also the calendars on our desks), it looks like it’s time for the Splatoon 2 game to launch for the Nintendo Switch system. What an exciting day! Even more exciting, the new SplatNet 2 mobile service, which is a part of the Nintendo Switch Online app* for mobile devices, is also launching. SplatNet 2 lets you track things like stage schedules, gear and stats. This is great since many Squid Research Lab employees are taking their summer vacations soon and want to be able to check in on Splatoon 2 info at all times.

Recently, we aired a special Nintendo Direct presentation that was as fresh as it was informative. Tons of details about the modes, weapons and styles of Splatoon 2 were covered, so please watch it here to get a refresher before diving into the game. By watching the video, you’ll also be introduced to two new characters: Pearl and Marina. Pearl and Marina are the new hosts of Inkopolis News and the recurring Splatfest competitions. A special Splatfest for Splatoon 2just occurred on July 15 and pit ice cream against cake as the better dessert. Team Ice Cream emerged victorious, which caused quite the stir at the Squid Research Lab, as many of us prefer pie. The first Splatfest competition after launch will occur the first weekend in August and asks your condiment of choice: mayonnaise or ketchup? (Specific timing will be announced in the future.) New Splatfest competitions, as well as free updates to the game like new stages, weapons and gear, will be coming to Splatoon 2 on a regular basis.

Whether you are inking your way through the many online** and local*** multiplayer modes in the game or the fun single-player adventure, the power of Nintendo Switch lets you play Splatoon 2 anywhere! So please feel free to engage in battles at the beach, on the docks or in a submarine! (Or, you know, anywhere non-aquatic-related.) The new Salmon Run mode (which is a favourite among our researchers) can be played at any time locally and is also available to play online at designated times, just like Splatfest! In fact, rumour has it that the Salmonids plan to attack during the first three days after launch (July 21-23). If you want to take a part-time job with Grizzco Industries to help fend off these menacing migrators, this would be a great time to do it!

In addition to the game and SplatNet 2, three new Splatoon series amiibo figures are also launching today. Sadly, these new figures aren’t based on anyone that works here in the Lab, but they are new models for the Inkling Girl, Inkling Boy and Inkling Squid … and that’s pretty fresh. By tapping any Splatoon series amiibo figure you can save control settings, gear and weapon loadouts, as well as any clever nicknames. You can have a different set saved to each amiibo for quick access – perhaps one might be your Splat Dualies set for use in Turf War and another is your Goo Tuber set for use in Ranked Battle. It’s up to you!

Two years have passed since the original Splatoon came out (what a proud day!) and two years have also passed in the game. This means that many of those styles and weapons you remember from the first game have evolved into things even more stylish and current. We can’t wait to see what outfits and hairstyles your Inkling will be sporting in this new game.

Splatoon 2 is now available in stores and in Nintendo eShop at a suggested retail price of $79.99. The new Splatoon series amiibo are available at a suggested retail price of $15.99 each. (Sorry, but rare jellyfish or seashells are not accepted as payment.)

For more information about Splatoon 2, visit http://splatoon.nintendo.com/. For more information about SplatNet 2, visit http://splatoon.nintendo.com/splatnet2.

Remember that Nintendo Switch features parental controls that let adults manage the content their children can access. For more information about other features, visit http://www.nintendo.com/en_CA/switch/.

*Nintendo Account, compatible smart device and persistent internet connection required. Data charges may apply.

**Nintendo Account is required. Online services and features, including online gameplay, are free until the paid Nintendo Switch Online service launches in 2018.

***Additional games and systems are required for multiplayer mode and are sold separately.

Retro City Rampage DX coming to Nintendo Switch!

Susumu Matsushita to create cover art for Tiny Barbarian DX’s physical Switch release!

SANTA ANA, Calif., July 19, 2017—Nicalis, Inc. announced today that physical copies of Tiny Barbarian DX, the company’s upcoming sword-and-sorcery platform game for Nintendo Switch, will feature a dynamic cover illustration by world-renowned artist and character designer Susumu Matsushita. The game is currently scheduled for release in the fourth quarter of 2017 with an MSRP of $29.99.

Mr. Matsushita is best known as the legendary artist who created cover art for hundreds of issues ofFamitsu, Japan’s longest-running and most highly respected video game magazine. He is the creator of Necky the Fox, Famitsu’s mascot who appeared as a playable character in Nintendo’s Super Mario Maker via the Mario Costume mechanic.

Tiny Barbarian DX is an action-packed side-scroller that combines platform jumping with sword swinging, expertly blended with retro pixel art and loincloth-stirring chiptunes. After seeing gameplay footage and studying the production art created by StarQuail Games, Mr. Matsushita agreed that his immediately recognizable character rendering style would be perfect for the game’s box art. “Tiny Barbarian DX is a game I’d like to play,” he says, “and it’s been a while since I felt that!”

In addition to magazine covers, Mr. Matsushita’s acclaimed artwork has graced the packaging of many other video games over the past 40 years, including Motor Toon Grand PrixMaximo and even the original Hudson’s Adventure Island for the NES and TurboGrafx-16. His Tiny Barbarian DX illustration shows the Tiny Barbarian and his counterpart Tiny Barbarina riding on the fearless Wasteland Wildcat while enemies from the game surround them on all sides!

Retail copies of Tiny Barbarian DX will also contain a full-color instruction manual that includes a featurette on the making of the box art. It describes Mr. Matsushita’s creative process, details his preferred art supplies, shows photos of him working at his drawing table and even identifies the 1960s rock instrumental that he listened to while he created the cover!

Developed by StarQuail Games and published by Nicalis, Tiny Barbarian DX is planned for release on Nintendo Switch in the fourth quarter of 2017.
