Nintendo Switch Journey Comes To E3 To Reveal New Worlds For Mario’s Odyssey!
LOS ANGELES, June 13, 2017 – Nintendo outlined major upcoming waypoints on the continuing journey that started with the launch of the Nintendo Switch system in March. This summer, Nintendo renews its commitment to fun multiplayer gaming anytime, anywhere, with anyone, with games like Splatoon 2, ARMS and Pokkén Tournament DX, the first Pokémon title for Nintendo Switch. Tournaments featuring all three games will take place this week during the E3 video game trade show, which runs through June 15 in Los Angeles. To watch all of the tournament action, keep an eye on http://e3.nintendo.com or on Nintendo’s YouTube and Twitch channels.
Later this year, Nintendo Switch owners will get to explore glorious new kingdoms with the Super Mario Odyssey game, the first 3D sandbox-style Mario adventure in more than 15 years. Visitors to Nintendo’s booth at E3 this week will be the first members of the public to get their hands on the game.
Today’s Nintendo Spotlight: E3 2017 video featured new Nintendo Switch games for Yoshi, Kirby and Xenoblade Chronicles, plus new looks at key titles such as Super Mario Odyssey. The video also announced the development of the Metroid Prime 4 game and a Pokémon RPG for Nintendo Switch. The Nintendo Spotlight: E3 2017 video can be seen in its entirety at http://e3.nintendo.com.
“Nintendo Switch provides everyone a ticket for a journey to new worlds and fun, exclusive experiences,” said Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime. “This journey continues through all of 2017 and beyond, and it’s one that video game fans of all types won’t want to miss.”
This year, Nintendo will see a constant delivery of great games for both Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo 3DS family of systems, headlined by Super Mario Odyssey for the Nintendo Switch system. Players roam massive 3D kingdoms to collect Moons to power Mario’s airship, the Odyssey. The kingdoms around the globe are filled with secrets and surprises. Mario can don a variety of costumes and interact with his environment in many creative ways, such as by driving vehicles or exploring sections as Pixel Mario. Mario’s new partner, Cappy, gives him new moves like cap throw, cap jump and capture, which provide a fresh take on the classic Super Mario formula and define this new adventure. The game offers new locales like the skyscraper-packed New Donk City. Three Super Mario Odyssey series amiibo figures – Mario, Princess Peach and Bowser in their wedding outfits – will be sold separately and as a three-pack when the game launches on Oct. 27. These amiibo can be seen in Nintendo’s booth at E3, alongside two new amiibo figures in the Super Mario series: Goomba and Koopa Troopa.
Other upcoming games for Nintendo Switch:
- Pokkén Tournament DX from BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment and The Pokémon Company will let players take direct control of the prized Pokémon fighters to defeat other Pokémon in arena battles. With new fighters on the roster and new support Pokémon, this is the definitive version of the game, which saw a strong fan reaction to the Wii U original. Pokkén Tournament DX launches on Sept. 22.
- In Yoshi’s new game, players explore a huge world decorated like a miniature diorama. Each side-scrolling stage has the traditional front side as well as a back side that lets players explore the world from a different view to find new surprises. Yoshi’s new adventure begins in 2018.
- In the first mainline Kirby game for Nintendo Switch, the ever-friendly puffball can recruit enemies by hitting them with hearts to gather a party of up to four characters, or join with up to three friends* for co-op play. Kirby can even combine copy abilities to create combo attacks for defeating enemies and solving puzzles. This game will release in 2018.
- In Xenoblade Chronicles 2, the latest entry in the acclaimed RPG series, a new hero will seek out Elysium on an immense journey through a new world. The game launches this holiday season.
- And in Fire Emblem Warriors from Koei Tecmo Games, players take control of favourite Fire Emblem franchise characters such as Marth, Xander and female Corrin, as well as new characters exclusive to this game. Players unleash over-the-top moves and strategize with the classic weapons triangle as they try to defeat hordes of fighters in a variety of areas, including some that are inspired by well-known Fire Emblem locations, such as Hoshido Castle. Fire Emblem Warriors launches this fall for Nintendo Switch, and will also be available for New Nintendo 3DS XL, New Nintendo 3DS and New Nintendo 2DS XL**.
Nintendo Switch will enjoy strong third-party support from some of the top publishers and developers in the industry. A sampling includes:
- Rocket League from Psyonix lets up to eight players* compete in a high-powered hybrid of arcade soccer and driving. The Nintendo Switch version of the game includes exclusive Customization Items and Battle-Cars. The game launches this holiday season.
- As a special treat for Nintendo fans, select items from The Legend of Zelda franchise will appear in the Nintendo Switch version of Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim when it releases this holiday.
- Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle from Ubisoft® is a playful mashup of the Mushroom Kingdom and the irreverent Rabbids. The turn-based combat adventure combines classic Mario characters and wonderfully hilarious Mario-themed Rabbids with fun exploration and gameplay. The game launches exclusively on Nintendo Switch on Aug. 29.
- EA SPORTS™ FIFA 18 delivers all of the action fans expect from the world’s most popular sports video game franchise, and now players can play the world’s game anytime, anywhere, in brand new ways with FIFA 18 on Nintendo Switch. The game launches on Sept. 29.
Nintendo showed details of the upcoming DLC packs for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The two packs are available only as part of the Expansion Pass for $28.19. The first pack, “The Master Trials,” launches June 30, and the second one, “The Champions’ Ballad,” arrives during the holiday season. Nintendo also announced upcoming amiibo of the four champions from the game for release during the holiday season: the Goron champion Daruk, the Rito champion Revali, the Zora champion Mipha and the Gerudo champion Urbosa.
In addition to announcing Metroid Prime 4 in the Nintendo Spotlight: E3 2017 video, Nintendo also announced during Nintendo Treehouse: Live at E3 that a classic Metroid adventure would return, rebuilt from the ground up for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. The Metroid: Samus Returns game is a modern reimagining of the 1991 Game Boy adventure Metroid II: Return of Samus. Intergalactic bounty hunter Samus Aran’s arsenal has been enhanced with new moves and abilities such as the powerful Melee Counter, 360-degree Free Aim Mode and mysterious Aeion Abilities. This intense, side-scrolling action-platformer has been completely remade with engaging and immersive 3D visuals and a rich, atmospheric colour palette. The game launches on Sept. 15.

Blockbuster Console Games revealed by Nicalis at E3 2017!
LOS ANGELES, Calif., June 12th, 2017—Independent publisher/developer Nicalis, Inc. is revealing four upcoming console games during the annual Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). The announcements are sure to please fans of recent Nicalis neo-classics like The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ and Cave Story+.
The company’s 2017 line-up includes Tiny Barbarian DX (Nintendo Switch), Ittle Dew 2+ (Nintendo Switch), Blade Strangers (Switch and PlayStation 4) and The End Is Nigh (Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4).
• Inspired by heroic fantasy fiction, Tiny Barbarian DX is the action-packed adventure of one Barbarian’s quest for vengeance. Developer StarQuail Games has combined engaging 2D platform action and combo-based hack-and-slash combat with retro-style pixel art and a pulse-pounding chiptune soundtrack for Nintendo Switch. The game offers two-player cooperative action, unlockable game modes and multiple homages to classic 8- and 16-bit games in each of its four lengthy episodes.
• Sassy adventurer Ittle and her reluctant flying friend Tippsie return in Ittle Dew 2+, an upgraded and expanded Nintendo Switch version of the action/adventure puzzle game from developer Ludosity. Stranded on a mysterious island and armed with a few weapons as well as a magical map, our heroine explores the three-dimensional landscape in search of valuable loot and the eight scattered pieces of a raft that could be her ticket home.
• From veteran Japanese developer Studio Saizensen comes Blade Strangers, a hardcore old-school fighting game with online multiplayer battles for the Switch and PS4. Its refined four-button control scheme makes it easy for beginners to jump right in, but tournament-caliber players will relish the intricate combos, counters and specials. The fighter roster includes characters from previous Studio Saizensen games (like Code of Princess and Sayonara Umihara Kawase), Nicalis games (like Cave Story+) and other surprise entrants.
• The brand-new game from The Binding of Isaac creator Edmund McMillen and Tyler Glaiel, The End Is Nigh is a sprawling adventure/platformer. Players control Ash, a little black glob trying to make a friend out of the body parts he finds scattered throughout a post-apocalyptic world. As Ash leaps his way through a never-ending onslaught of decaying, mutant creatures, he can collect assorted tumors and hidden video-game cartridges that unlock fully playable mini-games.
All four games are planned for release in 2017, with Tiny Barbarian DX, Ittle Dew 2+ and The End Is Nigh scheduled for Q3 and Blade Strangers appearing in Q4.

Nicalis bringing Blade Strangers to Nintendo Switch this holiday season!
LOS ANGELES, Calif., June 12th, 2017—Nicalis, Inc. today announces an all-new 2-D fighting game created by veteran Japanese development house Studio Saizensen. Featuring a character roster that’s partially drawn from the studio’s previous games, Blade Strangers is expected to launch on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Steam during the fourth quarter of 2017.
The stunning character animation in Blade Strangers is created using a proprietary process. 3D character models are used to render individual animation frames, which are then rasterized into sprites and manually touched up by experienced 2D artists. The result is smooth and realistic animation in which every single frame looks like a gorgeous anime illustration.
The game uses a four-button control scheme in which all attacks are triggered by various combinations of action buttons. By avoiding the use of traditional quarter-circle and half-circle input commands, Nicalis and Studio Saizensen hope that the less complex controls of Blade Strangers will allow new players to get into the fighting game genre. The development team’s goal is to revitalize a once-mighty fan community that has the potential to grow even larger.
“The first time I played Blade Strangers, I couldn’t believe that both the control and game mechanics were so intuitive,” says Nicalis president Tyrone Rodriguez, himself a longtime competitive fighting game player. “It was immediately fun. And even though it was just an early demo, I could see that it already had the gameplay depth of a classic 2D fighter from the 1990s.”
Another benefit of the simplified controls in Blade Strangers is reduced lag in online multiplayer competition, since there’s less data to transmit between opponents. The finished game will combine the excitement and subtle dynamics of a classic one-on-one brawler with the polish and features that a current-gen fighting game deserves.
Developed by Studio Saizensen and published by Nicalis, Blade Strangers is planned for release on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Steam (PC/Mac) in the fourth quarter of 2017. Pricing info and release date to be announced at a later time.
