Children of Morta Adds New Playable Character To The Mix!

Warsaw, Poland – June 24, 2020 — Children of Morta is an action-RPG all about the bonds of the courageous Bergson family, but that doesn’t mean the Bergsons’ home is a place where fellow adventurers aren’t heartily welcomed. 11 bit studios and Dead Mage are proud to present another free update to their indie hit, introducing Apan – a seventh playable character joining the party.

Apan – known as Clan Mother in her homeland – came from the far north of Mount Morta. She is as skilled in providing vital support for companions on the battlefield as she is in wielding a sturdy staff. Her weapon’s reach makes Apan perfect for delivering deadly mid-range strikes, her special Asva Pulse dash ability leaves opponents hindered in the dust, and her spells cover a large area of effect. In defence, all of the Bergsons can take advantage of Apan’s medical knowledge as she also boosts the effects of healing potions, and a new mechanic lets the family gain shields from items, abilities, and Apan’s Rage skill. Simply put, Apan’s presence makes them all stronger, especially in battle.

The exciting new character design was created by one of Children of Morta’s Kickstarter backers and his partner, who both believed in the project since its very early stages. Here’s what these backers – known as AgaRar and GlueBubble – had to say about the idea that inspired the Apan’s creation, “The idea for Apan came from the brainstorming of myself and my partner. We originally made her an orphan, but later changed her to a mother to better compliment the Children of Morta story and family theme. A strong leader of nomadic healers who allies herself with the Bergsons to aid them in their fight against Corruption. We hope that our inspiration, and Dead Mage’s hard work, translates into a character that you all will enjoy for years to come.”.

The Bergsons’ House free update is available on all platforms: Xbox One, PC (Steam, GOG.com, Humble Store), PS4 and Nintendo Switch. The free update contains:

  • A brand-new character with a unique skillset designed to play in single-player, but also shine in co-op playthroughs
  • Special shielding skills and passive healing mechanics
  • 32 new Apan-specific Runes
  • 9 new story cutscenes
  • A few HUD and UI tweaks
  • Additional bug fixes

Children of Morta Brings its Family of Brave Heroes to Nintendo Switch Today!

Warsaw, Poland – Nov. 20th, 2019 — After its well-received debuts on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, Children of Morta has now made its way to Nintendo Switch! The stunning action-RPG indie hit from developer Dead Mage and publisher 11 bit studios is now available on the Nintendo eShop for $21.99 with retail versions arriving on Nov. 22, 2019.

Children of Morta is a story-driven rogue-lite RPG game focused on a brave family of heroes, the Bergsons. Fighting to protect their homeland and the legendary Mount Morta from an ancient evil, the family’s harrowing journey sees them learn a lot about themselves while facing untold danger at every turn.

Lead the Bergsons, with all their flaws and virtues, against the forthcoming Corruption. Will you be able to sacrifice everything to save the ones you care for?

“We had to postpone the Nintendo Switch release a bit, but in my super-biased opinion as a producer, this was the right decision as it’s a fantastic console for Children of Morta — it was meant for this handheld. And we’re already going further as I can tease that a roadmap for 2020 is in the works and we will tell more about it soon”, Children of Morta executive producer, Marek Ziemak.

Children of Morta in a nutshell:

  • Gameplay – It’s a unique mix of the action-adventure RPG, rogue-lite, and hack and slash genres. By leveling up, you develop not only individual characters but the entire family as a whole. There is no permadeath and you can change family members between dungeon runs.
  • Story – The story takes place in a distant land but copes with themes and emotions common to all of us: Love and hope, longing and uncertainty, and the loss and sacrifice we are willing to make to save the ones we care about the most. Ultimately, it’s about a family of heroes standing against the encroaching darkness.
  • Dungeon Crawling – All the dungeons in the game are procedurally generated, which means their layout is different with each adventure. There are two to four levels in each dungeon, with a unique boss fight at the end. You can always get back to the previous dungeons to get extra XP or finish all the side quests.
  • Characters & Skills – Ranged attacks, magic spells, blocks, stuns, evasions, and passive skills – it’s all there for you to discover, unlock, and upgrade. You can choose from six different family members, each one having unique skill sets.
  • Art Style – A combination of hand-painted pixel art and frame-by-frame animations paired with modern lighting techniques bring the beautifully dangerous world of Children of Morta to life!

Thanks to a partnership with Merge Games, the retail edition for all platforms will be available on November 22nd. For gamers who love extra spicy limited editions, there will be PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch Signature Editions that include a pocket artbook, enamel pins, and more.

11 Bit Studios Delays Children of Morta Release To Nov 20th on Switch!

Warsaw, Poland – Oct 7, 2019 — Developer Dead Mage and Publisher 11 bit studios are announcing today the delay of Children of Morta for Nintendo Switch. Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions will release as planned on Oct. 15, 2019, while the Switch version is being pushed ahead to Nov. 20, 2019. Not willing to compromise the quality of the game or release a product to paying customers that’s half-baked, the team made the difficult decision to delay and allow developers the extra time they needed. In an open letter to players, 11 bit studios and Dead Mage had this to say:

To the players and our fans,

Spending 5 years creating a game is exhausting. Spending 5 years creating a game and then having to delay it — that’s just brutal — but when you’re aiming for excellence and you know it’s within your grasp, you just do it. Such is the case with Children of Morta on the Nintendo Switch. We still have a couple of kinks to work out and are pushing for quality over anything else. The community may forgive us for the delay, but forgiveness won’t come so easily if we release a game that’s not working perfectly. As delivering the best performance is our highest priority, we are simply delaying the game to November 20th to allow ourselves the time we need. Xbox One and PlayStation 4 releases are going as planned on the 15th of October.

At 11 bit studios, there is no space for compromise when it comes to quality. For players, it means a bit more of a wait. For us, a bit more hard work which we’re glad to do because, in the end, we all have the same goal — a fantastic game.

Kind regards,

Dead Mage & 11 bit studios

11 bit studios’ Highly Anticipated ‘Children of Morta’ Moves to a 2019 Release!

December 13, 2018 – Warsaw, Poland — Dead Mage and 11 bit studios have collectively decided to postpone Children of Morta to 2019. Our goal is to deliver a mind-blowing, story-driven hack n’ slasher — and we’ll get there — but the journey is going to take a bit longer than expected:

“Having a solid amount of feedback after shows like PAX Prime, and knowing exactly the goal we need to reach, we have decided to move the release date of Children of Morta, on all platforms, to 2019”, says Producer, Marek Ziemak. “There is huge potential for this gem and we know how to fulfill it, so some things are already put in motion. I strongly believe in Mr. Miyamoto’s words about delaying a game to make sure it’s brilliant when it releases and nothing less. Also, and I believe this is important from the gaming community’s perspective, we are now developing Children of Morta for all four major platforms and there will be a simultaneous launch on all of them – Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC.”

The biggest and most time-consuming change is Children of Morta’s growth. The game is increasing significantly in size, as each of the three biomes the player can visit in the game will now have more levels and they’re larger overall. Another addition we’ve made is mini-bosses awaiting at the end of each level. The storyline praised in the previews is going to be written with a bolder pen, making the game’s world more strongly tied to the plot. All in all, there’s more work ahead for the devs but it’s for the good of the game.

Meanwhile, take a look at the evolving art style on new screenshots and have a great Winter Holidays!
